The reason I selected the topic on the Hypoxic Drive is that i am very interested in medical studies. I love to look into new theories that have been developed and see what they envelop. In this case, the Hypoxic Drive is a secondary respiratory drive in human beings. When the respiratory system stops regulating the carbon dioxide levels, the Hypoxic Drive kicks in and starts to regulate the oxygen levels. I wanted to know how the hypoxic drive functions, so I started to look into it over the summer. What really grabbed my attention was the idea that the Hypoxic Drive could be a potential drive that could be permanently enabled. I keep wondering whether the human being could actually survive on solely a hypoxic drive, and that wonder is the inspiration for my topic.
